Q: Can GoXLR power my (high impedance) 250ohm headphones?

A: GoXLR really does have a pretty great headphone preamp and can power many high impedance headphones like the Beyerdynamic DT990 Pros (among others). However there are a few things to know: 1. Impedance, while correlated, is not the same as loudness (or lack of loudness). Meaning, some 250ohm headphones can sound louder or quieter than other 250ohm headphones. 2. We say that GoXLR powers a headphone if GoXLR can power it above a loudness threshold of 90dB. 90dB is the volume at which it is safe to listen to audio for long periods of time. However, GoXLR may not power those headphones for some who want to listen at a louder-than-safe volume (or have a ton of wax in their ears). So just know, when we say, "GoXLR powers these headphones." We mean, "GoXLR powers these headphones to the maximum recommended volume for safe listening." Now that we've got that out of the way, GoXLR does power 250 ohm headphones above 90dB and we have many streamers who are happy using them, but your mileage may vary. There is a lot of subjectivity in choosing the right headphones for you and while recommendations are a great place to start, we encourage you to try as many headphone brands, styles, and types as possible to find the perfect pair for you!
